Astrakhan biosphere reserve
Historically it happens so that Reserve acted as one of the key research organizations in the
Volga delta. Here was created Ornithological Station, uniting birds researching in the Caspian
Sea. Reserve employees advanced the idea of creating wetlands "Delta Volga" in 1975, giving
it the Ramsar status. Many years of monitoring the situation in the area engaged in Astrakhan
Reserve. New time poses new threats for the territory. At the beginning of the last century in
the Volga delta greatly decreased the number of animals, but were retained by their habitat
and after measures of protection the threat has been removed, but today there is a risk to
habitats loss, after which it is impossible to restore the number of animals.
