New Freedom Scholarship Program will Help Lower Net Price of College
Enrollment for Students with Financial Need

In March of 2021, Governor Noem signed the need-based Freedom
Scholarship program into law with a $50 million appropriation that
matched $125 million from First Premier Bank, Avera Health, and
Sanford Health.
The requirements for students is that they must
.
be South Dakota residents;
attend any of South Dakota's public or private postsecondary
institutions that offer a baccalaureate degree;
maintain a GPA of 2.5;
graduate within five years; and
live and work in South Dakota for three years after graduation.
If pledge is not fulfilled by student, the scholarship becomes an
interest-bearing loan.
