HOW WE WILL ACHIEVE IT
SUPPORTING PUBLIC
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The GNWT will enhance support to the AEA as
the lead agency providing energy efficiency and
conservation programs and services in the NWT.
The GNWT will conduct a review of AEA programs
and services to ensure that funding is achieving
best results, that the programs meet the needs
of the NWT, and that the programs align with the
objectives of this Strategy.
Additionally, the AEA will be funded to expand the
energy efficiency, conservation and renewable
energy program to include eligibility for non-profit
organizations, include new and retrofit whole-
building energy rating grants, and provide support
for low income home owners, for example.
The GNWT will also look for ways that community
governments can support energy efficiency. The
GNWT will engage with community governments
to get feedback on proposed amendments to the
Cities, Towns and Villages Act, amendments that
would enable communities with sufficient capacity
to provide loans to assist residents and businesses
to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
