NITRIDING
■ Nitriding involves ionizing a nitrogen-
hydrogen gas mixture in a vacuum
PVD and PACVD/CVD
■ PVD is a vacuum deposition method,
where a highly pure, solid coating material
goes from a condensed state to vapor and
then back to a thin-film condensed state
PACVD and CVD are processes used to
deposit thin films from a gas state (vapor)
to a solid state on a substrate; Chemical
reactions are involved in the process,
which occur after the creation of a plasma
of the reacting gases
THERMAL SPRAYING
■ Powder or wire is melted at high
temperatures and the materials are then
sprayed onto a surface
LASER CLADDING
Laser cladding is a method of depositing
material in which a powdered or wire
feedstock material is melted and
consolidated by use of a laser in order to
coat part of a substrate
