Exchange rate movement could soon emerge as a source of
stress
In the backdrop of rising demand on account of import, resumption of
travel abroad and tourism, as also falling remittance flows, BDT exchange
rate came under some pressure in the early months of FY22
During Jul-Nov of FY22, exchange rate of BDT against USD experienced a
depreciating trend
➤ Interestingly, over the same time frame, the BDT has shown a generally
appreciating trend against the Euro and the UK Pound Sterling (GBP). While
the exchange rate of BDT against Indian Rupee (INR) has been volatile, it has
been depreciating against the Chinese Yuan (CNY)
□ Besides nominal exchange rate, movements in the real effective exchange
rate (REER) are generally taken into consideration while formulating
exchange rate policies
