Midwest Region
Midwest region extends over an area of 1.6 million km² and represents about 19%
of the national territory. The region has become Brazil's agricultural heartlands
with states that have disproportionally more cattle than human inhabitants.
The region's economic activity revolves around agriculture and livestock. Despite
this, the region's agricultural GPD of 19% lacks behind the South (with 27%
share) and Southeast (with 24%).
The Midwest is the region with the highest GDP per capita in the country and the
second lowest unemployment rate. The logistical infrastructure, however, remains
precarious, especially for the bulk transport of agricultural commodities.
