CASE EXAMPLES INVOLVING UPL- PARALEGALS Robinson advertised his services as a paralegal and his business card and letterhead referred to him as a "paralegal consultant." He performed services without attorney supervision, solicited clients, represented clients in court, and gave legal advice. The Court found Robinson's ads were unlawful solicitations- that it is unlawful for someone not an attorney to solicit the cause of another person. • Even if court appearance is ultimately authorized, giving advice, preparing pleadings, etc. prior to appearance is not. State v. Robinson, 321 S.C. 286, 468 S.E.2d 290 (1996)
