CHIHUAHUA GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH Chihuahua Records through the Family History Library Catholic Church Records How far back? Problems with Catholic Church Records Civil Records 55 locations More than 30 Chihuahua parishes have records that go back to the 1700s, and some of the largest cities have records back to their earliest years: Cusihuiriachic (1670), Chihuahua (1709), Parral (1632) and Allende (1662). Chihuahua was established in 1707, and its church records began soon after (1709). The Parral silver mines were discovered in 1631, and their records go back to 1632. Although the mines of Santa Barbara were first discovered in 1567, their church records only go back to 1679. With the exception of some of the larger cities, many Chihuahua church records with the FHL are incomplete collections, with some sporadic and out-of-order records and gaps that cross many years. 117 locations. The larger municipios usually have good coverage, while smaller areas have spotty records. COPYRIGHT © 2017 JOHN P. SCHMAL 18
