Both are threatened by heavy hunting for food, and by habitat loss and degradation through the conversion of forest to small-scale agricultural use and large-scale oil palm plantations. The Tenkile Conservation Alliance based in Wewak (PNG) works with local villages to monitor, conserve and research tree kangaroos.
