Chemicals and plastic are part of a great number
of simple and complex daily activities, and indis-
pensable for many other industries. That is why
the petrochemical sector is considered essential
for the global economy, and even more so during
the pandemic as chemicals and plastic are indis-
pensable elements in the production of hospital
items, hygiene products and packing.
Our sector is highly sensitive to global changes in
supply and demand, and therefore cyclical - there
are peaks when demand is greater than supply,
leading to higher profit margins. Likewise, slack
periods bring lower margins.
Today our industry is experiencing lower polyethyle-
ne prices due to the entry of new petrochemical
plants in the US and Asia, with new capacities affec-
ting the global supply and demand relationship. Our
diversification strategy is designed to mitigate the
effects of this cycle. Find out more about our work
in this sector and the competitive scenario in this
market in our Reference Form Annual Reports.
