System is tested at SINTEF ocean basin laboratory
Circular design distributes forces
Ocean Sun uses a thin hydro elastic membrane
。 This allows the structure and the PV modules to move gracefully with the
harmonics of the waves, as opposed to working against the forces from
the waves.
Minimal drag from sea current
Wind
Minimal wind drag due to flat mounting on the water
Reduced risk of system breaking from wind
Ocean Sun's pilot in Osterøy, Norway has been operating since May 2017
without any material downtime or breakage
Basin tests and simulations have
predicted the systems wave
capabilities and CFD1 analysis has
shown that the system is able to
withstand typhoon category 4
→ winds of 275 km/h
