Residential, Commercial, and Industrial 5.1 Overview This section summarizes the GHG emissions associated with the burning of fuels in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Industrial Process emissions, that is, emissions associated with the transformation of raw materials from one state to another that results in the release of GHGs into the atmosphere, is discussed in Section 6. The GHG emissions accounted for in this sector are CO2, CH4, and N₂O. Emissions are generally calculated by applying specific emission factors (expressed in mass of carbon per unit of energy content, e.g. lbs GHG/BTU) and combustion efficiency (expressed in percentages) to the different types of fuels consumed in each sector. The SIT provides emission factors, energy content, combustion efficiencies, and the fractions of permanently stored fuels.
