About the Authority
The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) was created by an Act of the
National Assembly:
。 Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (Establishment) Act, 2011; and signed
into law by the President on 26 May 2011.
NSIA share ownership: Federal Govt. (45.8%), State Govts. (36.2%), Local Govts.
(17.8%) & FCT (0.16%).
Signatory to the Santiago Principles of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) /
International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF), which are a set of 24
voluntary guidelines that assign best practices for the operations of Sovereign
Wealth Funds (SWF) including transparency and governance, thus conferring on
NSIA the status of an international institution.
Board was inaugurated on the 9th of October 2012 and commenced investment
operations in Q3 2013 with seed funding of US$1 billion.
Received $500 million additional capital contribution between 2016 and 2017.
Operations are anchored on a 3-fold mandate:
o Building a savings base for the Nigerian People.
o Enhancing the development of Nigeria's infrastructure.
o Providing stabilisation support in times of economic stress.
Focused on infrastructure investments in key sectors of the Nigerian economy
including Agriculture, Healthcare, Power and Toll Roads implemented through
Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV).
