What we know about people convicted of
property and drug offenses
Property and drug crimes represent a large
share of arrests and sentences, consuming law
enforcement and court resources.
These people tend to have criminal records
(more prior arrests) but are convicted of
nonviolent offenses.
They may have significant criminogenic needs,
including substance use and criminal attitudes,
that must be addressed to prevent future
criminal behavior.
A combination of effective supervision and
treatment is shown to produce the largest
reductions in recidivism.
