TLAXCALANS IN SALTILLO Tlaxcalans were proud of their autonomous communities and maintained their identity throughout the colonial period. Here, in the Tlaxcalan parish church, San Esteban del Saltillo de la Nueba Tlascala, in 1684, two "indios Tlascaltecos" from the barrio of Concepión baptized their son, Juan.
