10.3 CLOSED-LOOP ECONOMY. WASTE TURNS INTO INCOME!
Organizer: Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of the Russian Federation.
Today, the principles of the closed-loop economy are at the top of the global world agenda. "Closed-loop
economy" is one of 42 strategic initiatives of the Russian Government, a large-scale interdisciplinary task. First
of all, the initiative is aimed at returning useful components that can be extracted from production and
consumption waste into the economic turnover. Under this economic model, the maximum amount of waste
should be turned into recyclable materials, recycled and reused. The transition to a closed-loop economy is
only possible by combining the efforts of business, the population, activists and all levels of government, as well
as by introducing innovative approaches and changing attitudes to resource consumption. How are the
principles of the circular economy being implemented in Russia? How can business take part in addressing the
challenges of a circular economy? How does a circular economy contribute to the achievement of global
climate objectives? How does the circular economy help solve strategic challenges in the OIC countries?
