Shares: A document signifying part ownership in a company. The terms "share" and "stock"
are often used interchangeably.
Securities Act: Provincial legislation regulating the underwriting, distribution, and sale of
securities.
Secondary market: Everyday trading by investors in the shares of a public company-
trading that is not part of a sale of shares to the public described in a formal disclosure
document such as a prospectus.
Simplified prospectus: An abbreviated and simplified prospectus distributed by mutual
funds to purchasers and potential purchasers of units or shares (see prospectus).
Yield: Annual rate of return received on investments, usually expressed as a percentage of
the market price of the security.
