This course aims to enable students to competently cope with the course material in English and to provide support. Skills Centre Course, a zero fee and zero credit course Pass Fail/Course, was Time-tabled on the portal for the first time in the semester Spring 2021. Students were categorized through a placement test catering to the CEFR levels for languages. Teachers and students could access the standardized content compiled by using Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to conduct interactive teaching and learning sessions. ELC was selected to represent UCP to collaborate with the National Curriculum Council from November 2021-November2022, through which university experts will give feedback on Curriculum Development. This activity aims to build a national platform of universities to collaborate with each other and with the NCC to assist in Education Reform. We also had the honor of representing UCP at the 2020 virtually held TEFLIN Conference, Indonesia, on the Future Direction of English Language Education. We were also invited to open our annual CPD workshops for all faculty members and provided sessions on blended learning strategies, assessment, classroom management amongst others in Summer 2020 and during both periods of lockdown. To ensure that the students are acquiring the required academic skills, the curriculum is regularly reviewed and revised according to the emerging learning needs. Seminars, Conferences and Workshops: Engagement of the faculty in organizing seminars, conferences and workshops for knowledge dissemination and soft branding of the CUST. A series of CPLD workshops was held including two Skype Sessions with Trainers from the USA. This is certainly the most important course that you'll study during your time at university and probably, one that you'll have a fun time studying. ELC Success Stories Areesha Arif: (semester 5) This is Areesha Arif, a student of BS-Media and communication Studies at FMCS. Right after I joined UCP, I became president of a NGO -Wall of hope (UCP chapter 2019-2021). After studying courses like mass communication and speak well, my public speaking has gotten even better. I also got selected as Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, Peace, Climate Change, and Women Empowerment in an international event "World Youth Summit for Peace”. I'm currently selected for a US student exchange program scholarship (UGRAD- FALL 2022) and I believe that my selection has a lot to do with what I learned from my university and teachers helping us analyze situations and being consistent. Hisham Talib Qureshi My name is Hisham Talib Qureshi from the batch of Fall '16 and I graduated as an Electrical Engineer. UCP had been a period of growth for me. Other than the technical mumbo jumbo of engineering, UCP helped me develop additional skills which complement my profile. The English courses outlined in my degree roadmap had 3 main components - Basic Applied English, Technical Writing, Communication Skills. They set up the basic foundation you needed to be good at English. It is the third course which brings it all together. Communication Skills is less about English and more about how to communicate effectively. It taught me how to empathize with people by being open in my communication and active in my listening. It taught me how to prepare for interviews and what the hiring party looks for within a candidate other than technical skills. It is a course I enjoyed studying and one which really rounded me off as being literate. It 91 Annual Report 2021 92 Annual Report 2021
