Appendix BNSF BNSF reports its results in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"). Management believes, however, that certain non-GAAP financial measures used in the management of its business may provide users of the information with additional comparisons to publicly reported results. These non-GAAP measures are used by management in the evaluation of the business and in making certain operating decisions. These non-GAAP measures should not be considered a substitute for GAAP measures. 32
