Background • • • • Amended Financial Activities (O.Reg. 360/15) regulation becomes effective on January 1, 2018. The City's investments will no longer be required to comply with a prescribed list of investments. New rules based upon the Prudent Investor Standard. Prudent Investor Standard requires a trustee to act prudently and with caution, discretion, loyalty, and care, but does not restrict the assets in which a trustee can invest. The trustee must evaluate the risk/reward trade-off. Consideration will now be given to all asset classes including equities. Toronto is the first Ontario municipality to be permitted to utilize the Prudent Investor Standard. bTORONTO 16
