The Huicholes in the 2010 Census
In 2010, 44,788 Huichol speakers 5 years of age and more lived throughout the
Mexican Republic, and 91% of them lived in either Nayarit or Jalisco, the
traditional Huichol homeland. Only 2% lived in Zacatecas. As noted in the following
table, 14% of the Huicholes in the Mexican Republic were monolingual (did not
speak Spanish).
