Promoting Agricultural and Rural
Agriculture's Contribution Across the U.S.
Economic impact and contribution analyses are
an increasingly popular method for illustrating
the importance of food, fiber, and forestry to state
and local economies. In 2015, CARS researchers
conducted a survey of agricultural economists
which showed vast differences in methods used to
conduct contribution studies. The survey results
suggested a need for further discussion, as well
as the development of additional resources to aid
researchers in conducting these types of studies.
CARS researchers have taken the lead in
opening this discussion and are working to
develop resources for enhancing the consistency
and clarity of contribution of agriculture
research. To provide a central location for
ongoing discussion and research, they have
launched a website called The Economic
Contributions and Impacts of U.S. Food, Fiber,
and Forest Industries.
The website contains a list of known
contribution and impact studies involving the
food, fiber, and forest industries in the U.S.
