Global and Local Agribusiness Challenges
Global Agribusiness will have to feed an additional 2.5 billion people over the next 30 years. To do
so, commercial animal feed production will need to increase by 70% by 2050, according to
estimates by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The immediate challenge for agribusiness is to increase agricultural production profitably, given
the growing competition for arable land and land use.
In addition to producing more and increasing the profitability of production, it is necessary to do
so by meeting the growing demands of end consumers regarding the way the food is produced.

The use of productive land for agriculture will come under increasing pressure, not only from the
demand for more production but from the increasing environmental and ethical demands of final
consumers regarding the way in which food is produced. The threat of value destruction caused
by negative narratives is growing every day.
