The value of college
18-22% returns to college for students at the
margin (Zimmerman, 2014; Mountjoy, 2021).
Pre-pandemic national estimates
4 in 5 jobs earnings $45K+ by age 45 go to
workers with a college education (Georgetown).
College "pays off" on average (Abel & Deitz, 2014
& 2019; Itzkowitz, 2020).
Much less so for students who do not complete
degrees (Cooper, 2021; Webber, 2018).
Carruthers et al. (2023): High estimated
average returns to college in the post-
pandemic U.S.

14.5% internal rate of return for a BA/BS, 9.5% for
an AA/AS, 6.4% for college credit but no degree.
