The goal of non-acute care is the prevention of deterioration

in the functional and health status of patients, such as adults with a complex
disability.
Non-acute care is usually provided in a hospital while patients are awaiting
placement into residential care, waiting for the services they will need at home
to be organised or for vital modifications to be made to their homes, or when
requiring respite care.
Non-acute care is also provided in purpose-built facilities where patients with
complex care needs receive support to optimise their physical and psychological
functioning in order to maximise their ability to enter long term supported
accommodation or return to their own home.
Target
The 2022-23 target unit cost is $775 per day of care for non-acute admitted
continuing care.
Improved or maintained performance is demonstrated by a result below or
equal to the target.
Results
The average cost per day of care for non-acute admitted continuing care was
$862. The higher expenditure to target is attributable to new From Hospital to
Home Disability Transitional Support services being provided in the metropolitan
area from 2022-23.
