Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS): Overview
Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) is a common
complication of schistosomiasis caused by the
presence of eggs in genital tissue
• FGS is a manifestation of urogenital schistosomiasis
disease in a female (affects both urinary and genital
tract) of infected individuals.
• The major causative organism of urogenital:
Schistosoma hematobium.
Women doing domestic chores in infected water at
risk.
• It is not sexually transmitted
