Bangladesh's Development
Economic Growth
The deflators used for estimating GDP figures also appear to be
problematic.
According to BBS, in FY22, growth of personal consumption expenditure
price index (which may be considered as a proxy for consumer price
index) increased by only 5.3% - which is lower than FY21.
With the prevailing high level of increases in prices of essential
commodities, such background numbers used for estimating GDP creates
doubt regarding the credibility of the GDP figures.
