Racial Classifications of Former Nueva Galicia States in 1921
In the 1921 census, the Mexican states that had previously been part of Nueva
Galicia had high rates of mestizaje (mixed racial identity), while smaller numbers of
citizens considered themselves to be pure indigenous. San Luis Potosí — the home
of the eastern Guachichiles is an exception, with one in three residents being
-
classified as pure indigenous.
