29 altogether surprising that disputes take some time to resolve; they tend to be factually and legally complex. Yet it is also true that investment arbitration does not offer a speedy alternative to local dispute resolution. Innovations in treaties' ISDS provisions have been designed to address some of these concerns. The relevant treaty practice is reviewed in section II.
