Facilitating the Researchers through Dedicated Research Portal A centralized database known as “UCP Research Portal" has been designed and made functional with the purpose of registering, monitoring, and carrying out data analytics of UCP research activities. The research portal is modified and updated in accordance with the evolving research trends every 6-months. Research Projects & Collaborations Till date, UCP faculty members have secured the research grant of more than Rs. 50 Million from local agencies such as HEC, Pakistan Science Foundation, and from international agencies such as DAAD-Germany, TEIN ASIA-Connect. On-going research projects at UCP: UCP Bio-Mechatronics Lab - FOE Under the convex of National Center of Robotics and Automation, a consortium of 11 robotics laboratories, UCP Bio-Mechatronics Lab has been established. Dr. Zohaib Aftab (Assistant Professor FOE) is the principal investigator (PI) of the research projects operating under this lab, the cumulative worth of which is more than Rs. 20 Million. The main aim of this lab is to engineer modern assistive devices, such as exoskeletons, which will improve walking function for disabled people like polio affected and spinal cord injured patients. Several prototypes of affordable exoskeletons have been developed and tested on patients. Center of Robotics - FOIT At the Center of Robotics, Dr. Syed Atif Mehdi (Assistant Professor - FoIT) is supervising two research projects in collaboration with two universities of Germany. These projects are sponsored by the German organization "DAAD", where the worth of each project is EUR 1.2 Million. The goal of the first project "Fruit Yield Estimation in Orchards using Autonomous Robot" is to develop an effective, simple, and apt computer vision algorithm to detect and count the citrus fruits yield. While, the second project is related to autonomous underwater vehicle for the impurity inspection of freshwater in the canals and dams. ASIA-CONNECT Project Dr. Majid Gulzar (Assistant Professor - FOE), in a Co-PI role, is working on project "ICT Research and Development for Rural/Remote Areas of Pakistan”, which is funded by the international organization TEIN under the "ASIA-CONNECT Project”. The total worth of the project is 50,000 Euros. The project's aim is to improve and enhance the communication and internet facilities in the rural areas, hospitals, schools, colleges and village towns as lack of these facilities is one of the major causes of backwardness and poor socioeconomic conditions of rural community. FloatSat System - International Collaboration with University of Wurzburg, Germany - University of Central Punjab and University of Wurzburg, Germany are working in a collaborative research project to enhance the functionality of Floating Satellite (FloatSat) system, which is supervised by Dr. Muhammad Kamran Saleem (Associate Professor FOE) from UCP. The German University has granted this FloatSat system so that UCP researchers/professionals and students can get familiar with basic satellite operations and various subsystems used in a satellite. FloatSat works in a frictionless environment where basic space missions such as star tracking, satellite docking, sun tracking, satellite solar panel deployment, etc. can be performed in a real-time. 31 Annual Report 2021 SPACE GENERATION ICASE ADVISORY UNCIL Research & Development Projects Project Title ICT Research and Development for Rural/ Remote Areas of Pakistan FORUM Meet The Scientists A specialized forum for young space enthusiasts to plan their career in space while Interacting with International & National Invited Guests of ICASE 2021 Ist SA Funding Agency Achieved by Total Amount (PKRs) Approval Year TEIN Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar (Associate Professor) 8.37 M 2020 Establishment of National Center of Robotics and Automation, Human-centered robotics lab, UCP HEC Dr. Zohaib Aftab (Associate 18.87 M 2018 Professor) Intelligence and Autonomy Extension for Low-Cost Freshwater Inspection Vehicles DAAD Dr. Syed Atif Mehdi (Associate 6.879 M 2019 Professor) Dr. Syed Atif Forest Monitoring and Change Detection using Remote Sensing Data DAAD Mehdi (Associate 6.879 M 2018 Professor) Detection of Fungus in Fields using Autonomous Robots DAAD Dr. Syed Atif Mehdi (Associate Professor) 6.879 M 2017 University of Wurzburg, Germany Dr. Muhammad Kamran Saleem (Associate Professor) Equipment is granted 2021 Floating Satellite (FloatSat) system 100+ Impact Factor Club - UCP Researchers at the International Horizon According to most reputed Web of Science (WoS) database, the citations of UCP have enhanced remarkably, which means that local and international research community are referring to the research work of UCP in their publications, thus, acknowledging the quality of research at UCP. Impact factor score is one of the key metric parameters through which the research productivity of any researcher can be assessed. 32 Annual Report 2021
