Alaska Seafood Industry Alaska's seafood industry is very large and very diverse. Many different kinds of boats-ranging from very small to very large-harvest many different kinds of fish. These are processed into many different kinds of products which are sold in markets all over the world. This makes it difficult to generalize about the Alaska seafood industry. The most important species for the Alaska seafood industry in terms of volume and value-are pollock, salmon, halibut and crab. There are important differences between these fisheries in resource conditions, market conditions, the types and scale of boats that are used, who participates in the fisheries, and who manages the fisheries.
