The Council arranged a presentation entitled "In the
Reconstruction of Darwin after cyclone Tracey, what
contributions have been made by unions and the
business community?" Members also prepared a Study
Paper on Accounting for Disasters, drawing on, and
sharing, their experience.
Members actively promote the profession, with the
Branch President invited to address school leavers at
Darwin High School and the new recruits in the Auditor
General's office.
In 1978, the Northern Territory was granted self-
government, a significant driver for the Branch to
advocate to separate from the S.A. Divisional structure
and to become a Division in its own right.
Also in 1978, the Society held the National Accounting
Convention [now known as CPA Congress] in Alice
Springs, attracting over 150 delegates from across
Australia. It was called 'Accounting at the Crossroads".
The NT Branch had 81 members
