PROVIDE COMPETENT LEGAL REPRESENTATION STATE-WIDE FOR INDIGENT
DEFENDANTS AND JUVENILES.
The Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel (OADC) contracts with approximately 460
private lawyers across Colorado to represent indigent defendants and juveniles where the
OSPD has a conflict of interest. Each of these lawyers is an independent contractor.
Investigators, paralegals, experts, social workers and other ancillary services are available
to these lawyers through the OADC. The Agency is committed to ensuring that the
representation is of the highest quality and includes advancements in the field.
PROVIDE COST-EFFECTIVE LEGAL REPRESENTATION STATE-WIDE FOR
INDIGENT DEFENDANTS AND JUVENILES.
The OADC has no control over the number of criminal and juvenile cases filed or
prosecutors' charging decisions. However, the OADC is constantly seeking ways to contain
the average cost per case.
