34 Committed to Development A longstanding Latin American aspiration, the IDB was established in 1959 with bold mandates and novel tools that made it the model for all other regional development banks. The IDB is today the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as for regional integration. It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors in its Latin American and Caribbean borrowing member countries. In Brazil, the institution is committed to poverty reduction, equity, and workforce development, productivity and infrastructure, institutional strengthening and modernization of the government, as well as the quality of life and efficiency in urban areas and environmental conservation. The images of the exhibition Faces of Development are part of a sample of the development projects in infrastructure, sanitation, health, agriculture, tourism, housing, among others, that IDB helps to turn into reality in the country. If you need more information about the institution, visit the website www.iadb.org. See next the list of projects supported by the IDB in Brazil.
