In 2022-23, the average cost to support patients who suffer specific chronic
illness and other clients who required ongoing care was $19.
Chronic conditions pose a significant burden on the healthcare system in Western
Australia. Chronic conditions describe a broad range of health conditions including
chronic and complex health conditions and disability. Chronic conditions often
require ongoing treatment and health care, and can lower a person's quality of life
and may affect their independence.
To support people with chronic conditions the Department of Health has entered
into collaborative arrangements with service providers to provide care to optimise
their quality of life and support independent living.
