On the other end of the spectrum, the official data shows the TAR with an extremely high
infant mortality rate (IMR) of 23.5%, the highest in all regions of the PRC. This shocking number
means that nearly 1 in 4 Tibetan infants in the TAR are dying at birth.
The TAR has one of the highest IMR in the world, attracting the attention of medical
professionals around the world who have called on China to address this humanitarian crisis.
