With the Charter of June 30, 1792, Empress Cather-
ine II granted the Kuban lands to the Cossack Army.
The Imperial Charter highlighted that the Cossacks
received the lands 'to their freehold and full con-
trol' for their 'diligent and committed services, in-
violable loyalty, strict obedience and commendable
behaviour, for their brave and courageous deeds
ashore and afloat'. They were also ordered to pro-
tect the southern borders of Russia and reclaim
Kuban lands.
Resorts and Tourism

The Krasnodar Region can boast a unique com-
bination of recreational resources excellent cli-
mate, warm sea, balneological resources, a variety
of natural landscapes. It allowed the region becom-
ing one of the most popular and the largest resort,
recreational and tourist centre in Russia.
Ski Tourism
Krasnaya Polyana mountain climate resort located
in the cluster of Sochi urban resort became interna-
tionally known after the Winter Olympics of 2014.
Due to an extensive natural diversity, mild climate, a
variety of mountain relief forms, unique features of
the snow cover, there is everything here one needs
for active rest, and, first of all, ski tourism.

The Land of Cossacks
The independent ethnic and social item (sub-eth-
nos) of Kuban Cossacks were formed in the sec-
ond half of the 19th century. Officially, November
19, 1860, the day when the Kuban Cossack Army
was organized, can be considered the date of the
sub-ethnos' origin. The Kuban Cossacks are poly-
ethnic by essence. Two components a Russian
and a Ukrainian one - served as determinant ethnic
origins in Kuban. The Cossacks adhere to their cus-
toms and traditions.

Vine-growing and Wines
Due to natural and climatic conditions the Kras-
nodar Region holds leading positions in vine-grow-
ing in the Russian Federation. The sum of active
temperatures, soil, and the amount of precipitation
define the singularity of the region. The territory
occupies the first place in Russia by the volume of
produced wines and champagne.
Sunflowers, Wheat
The Krasnodar Region is one of the leading Russian
regions by manufacturing and processing of agri-
cultural products. The territory consistently holds
one of the leading positions in Russia by grow-
ing sugar beet, sunflower seeds, fruits and berries,
grapes.
Kuban Feast
It's long, generous, abundant, full of songs and heart-
to-heart talks. Traditional dishes of the Kuban cuisine
are the Kuban borsch (red-beet soup), Black Sea fish,
dumplings (vareniki) with various fillings, meat cooked
in different variants, and snacks made of eggplants
which are affectionately called "sinenkiye" ("blue veg-
etables").
