The Government's debt composition is comprised of domestic debt (63.6%) and external debt (36.4%) as of September 30, 2023. The
significant increase in public debt in 2023 was due to the securitization of N22.7 trillion Ways and Means Advances of the CBN to the
Government. Maturities are relatively smoothened. With country-specific Debt/GDP ratio at 39.82% (Q3, 2023), an increase to 50% is being
processed for approval.
