Waste to electricity with microturbines is already used as a method to produce low-cost electricity. The 'hydrogen hub' method only adds an electrolyzer
Depending on the electricity price, the hydrogen hub will switch between selling electricity to the grid or producing green hydrogen. Dispatch
optimization is expected to maximize revenues and provide very low cost hydrogen
Hydrogen is intended to only be produced with very low cost electricity and the hydrogen hub is expected to receive a 'tipping fee' for using waste
gas. The only incremental expense to this model is a low-cost electrolyzer. This leads to hydrogen produced for $1 per kg at the hub or $2 per kg at the
fueling station
The hydrogen hub model is intended to be carbon negative with the carbon captured in briquettes
In collaboration with its partners, Hyzon is currently building its first Hydrogen Hub in Australia. Hyzon's partner, NRG Global, has multiple waste to electricity
sites, and is planning to build Hydrogen Hubs
