The Centre for Financial Regulation and Inclusion (Cenfri) is an independent, non-profit think-tank, based in Cape Town, South Africa. Our work explores the role of the financial sector and financial services in the context of improving the lives of low-income individuals. We cover a broad set of issues in financial-sector development throughout developing and emerging markets in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our core activity is generating research, but we do not pursue this area of expertise as an end-goal in itself. We produce research in order to capacitate and enable our stakeholders to make changes that will make a positive impact on society. We engage government stakeholders to affect policy and regulatory design; we engage the private sector to affect product innovation; and we engage with donors to support their programme design and evaluation. We do this through publishing our research, presenting our findings at workshops and conferences, developing capacity-building programmes, participating in knowledge exchange tours, directly supporting regulators and practitioners, and engaging with global standard setters.
