The Nez Perce Tribe, recognized in the Treaty of 1855 with the United States, is the governmental agency of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho. The nine-member council oversees the operations of departments and programs that include: Natural Resources, Fisheries, Administration, Education, Housing, Education, Judicial, Health/Medical, Finance, Law Enforcement, Social Services, Gaming, and Enterprise. Their Treaty encompasses areas of land and water in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon, including the Columbia, Snake and Salmon River regions. Oral histories and archaeological records indicate use and occupation as far back as over 11,000 years.
