Environmental Results (GRI Standards 103-1, 103-2, 103-3, 302-1, 303-1, 305-1, 305-2, 306-2) MetrôRio The variation between 2018 and 2019 for water consumption at MetrôRio was considered within the acceptable range of consumption and may be related to the normal operation of the system. The same is true for energy consumption. However, for this indicator it can also be observed that the distance traveled by trains in 2019 was 3.64% greater than in 2018. In addition, 2019 was considered the hottest year by the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet), generating greater use of air- conditioning on trains, thus increasing energy consumption. For the waste generation indicator, the expressive increase in 2019 is justified by the greater volume of waste generated through the inactivation and disposal of equipment, as well as infrastructure works at the Maintenance Center. The increase in the generation of direct emissions (Scope 1) in 2019 is explained, mainly, by the higher consumption of insulating gas in the electric power substations in relation to 2018, due to maintenance carried out, as well as greater use of air-conditioning in trains in 2019, with an increase in the replacement of refrigerant gas. In relation to indirect emissions (Scope 2), the increase in 2019 is related to the higher energy consumption in the system, detailed in the previous paragraph, as well as the variation in the average of the emission factor of the electricity grid, which was 1.4% higher in 2019 compared to 2018. This information is released monthly by the National Interconnected System of Brazil.
