28 SPECIAL GROUP FOR THE PREVENTION OF AFRICAN SWINE FEVER (GEPESA) Brazil is free from African Swine Fever and the maintenance of this status is a sectoral priority. The recent events of disease infection in European, Asian, and African countries, as well as in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, highlight the importance of prevention actions, which are already underway in several countries of the Americas. In Brazil, the work has involved actions to reinforce border protection, sector support for the provision of kennels and sniffer dogs for the surveillance of animal products contained in luggage coming from overseas, and legislative support to increase penalties for the illegal transportation of products. ABPA has also contributed with suggestions for updating regulatory processes, organizing training sessions and webinars addressing preventive measures, and developing educational and advertising materials, with the purpose of drawing the attention to the prevention of the disease.
