FISHERIES IN TELANGANA
Fisheries being the
important occupation in
Telangana is providing
livelihoods to around 5
lakh families in the State.
Telangana state is ranked
3rd in terms of Inland
fishery resources after
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
and ranked 6th in terms of
Fish production
A broad-brush picture of the growth
of the fisheries sector over last 3 years
is indicated in the following table:

Establishment of fish markets across
the state Across the state it has
been proposed to establish 203 fish
and vegetable markets by municipal
authorities.
Supply of fish lings at free of cost-
Government has decided to distribute
fishlings at free of cost for Besta,
Mudiraj and other community who
are into rearing fish in lakes and
ponds at 100% subsidy
During 2018-19 including Animal
Husbandry and Fisheries department
Rs 1,126.73 crores has been
earmarked.
Towards sale of fish in all 31 districts,
40 retail fish selling markets are being
constructed, apart from these 250
retails, 30 wholesale fish markets
proposals are prepared. Similarly,
under Greater Hyderabad purview at
4 places wholesale fish markets are
constructed at 9.65 crores.
For about 3.2 lakh fishermen
government is providing 6 lakh
insurance cover (State contributes 4
lakhs Centre 2 lakhs)

For sale of fish caught by fishermen
and see that they ae accessible
for the buyers in cities and
municipalities at 75% subsidy
4000 portable kiosks, 100 mobile
fish vending vehicles were proposed
Additionally, in Hyderabad, alone
150 mobile fish vending centres are
being taken up. Each central unit
will be costing Rs.10 lakhs in which
at 50% subsidy 5lakhs is granted
During 2018-19 in all the water
sources 74.72 crore fish seeds are
proposed to be cultured
Blue revolution scheme

Under operation Blue Revolution
scheme in 11 reservoirs with
advanced technology at a large
scale fish production has been
taken for which at 3 lakhs per
unit 360 cages were established for
production of fish

Nearly 400 fishermen families
and thousands of other are getting
benefitted directly and indirectly
with this scheme
During 2017-18 Rs.19.60 crores,
central and state funds have been
earmarked whereas proposals were
sent for grant of 100 crores from
the centre during 2018-19
Kerala, which is the third largest
marine fish producing State in the
country, has decided to replicate
Telangana's model of inland fish
production
