The United States was the country that most reduced its oil refining capacity in 2020, with a drop in capacity of 831,000 bar- rels of oil per day (4.6% of its to- tal capacity). China, on the other hand, was the country that most increased its oil refining capacity, with an increase of 492 thousand barrels of oil (2.9% of its total ca- pacity). The oil refining share among regions in the world was: Asia (38.0%), North America (21.7%), Europe (14.8%), Middle East (10.1 %), Commonwealth of Indepen- dent States (8.6%), South Amer- ica and Central (4.4%), and Africa (2.4%). The United States, China, and Russia concentrated 44.5% of the world's oil refining. Brazil was the 9th country with the largest oil refining capacity in the world, with 1.8 million barrels a day.
