Addressing Gender-Based Violence and Protecting Women's Rights Ensuring a Safe and Equal ASEAN 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical/sexual violence. 17% of women in Southeast Asia were subjected to violence from their partners in the past 12 months. It is the parliaments' responsibility to enact and enforce laws that address gender-based violence, protect survivors, and promote a culture of respect and equality. Strengthening legal frameworks, providing support services, and fostering awareness and education are crucial steps toward eradicating gender-based violence and upholding women's rights.
