Biotech successfully developed India's
first indigenous vaccine for COVID-19,
manufacturing a Billion dose of Covid-19
vaccines by Hyderabad-based Biological
E Ltd was central to the recently
concluded Quad meeting.
While Ambassadors from more than
63 countries visited Genome Valley to
meet with the vaccine manufacturers
in December 2020, the cluster is
witnessing high profile visits on a weekly
basis to explore partnership with our
manufacturers. Ranging from Johnson &
Johnson Vaccine to the Russian Vaccine
first RT-PCR Kits approved by ICMR was
developed in India was from Hyderabad
and since then, a number of companies
have developed PCR Kits, Rapid Test
Kits, Viral Transport Mediums, Reagents,
Tech based diagnostics solutions, among
others. Life Sciences sector in the state
has attracted investments worth INR
15546 crores and generated employment
for more than 84,000 people over the
last five years. International Companies
including Sandoz Research and
Development Laboratories, Chemo
India Formulations, Jamp India
Pharmaceutical, Ferring Laboratories
-
Hyderabad – Nucleus of
Life Sciences in Asia
and Tokyo Chemical Industry, among
others have established their footprint in
the State.
Last year alone, the sector has
attracted investments to the tune
of about INR 3,700 crores with an
employment potential for around 14,000
people.
Further, Pharmaceutical exports
of Telangana have been leading the
way at the country level as well. As per
the analysis of data from Directorate
General of Commercial Intelligence
and Statistics, Telangana is the leading
contributor of Pharma Exports from the
Country since 2015-16 (28% share in
FY 2020-21 (P)). Further, The average
annual growth of exports from Telangana
(22%) was twice that of India (11%) and
highest when compared to the top 5
States.
